Volunteer Team Lead

Help lead our charity scrapstore and creative re-use centre!

Are you reliable, organised, and looking for a meaningful way to contribute to a fun and eco-friendly community space? We’re looking for a Volunteer Team Lead to support the running of the Play And Recycling Centre (PARC) in Derby.

This key role will suit someone with experience managing people, for example in a retail, volunteer, or customer service environment. After a trial period, you would be trusted as a keyholder, opening or closing the centre on agreed days.

About us:

PARC is a volunteer-run charity scrapstore based in Derby. We collect clean, safe surplus materials from businesses and make them available to our members for art, play, education and DIY projects. Alongside our Scrapstore, we run a community craft shop, a paint reuse scheme, and creative workshops. Our mission is to reduce waste, inspire creativity, and support local people and organisations with low-cost resources.

We’re located at 6-10 Werburgh Street, Derby, DE22 3QG

Open: Monday - Wednesday 10:00-14:00 & 1st & 3rd Saturday 9:15-14:00

What you'll be doing:

·       Acting as a point of responsibility during open hours

·       Opening and/or closing the centre on set days (after a trial period)

·       Supporting and helping coordinate other volunteers during sessions

·       Working closely with Trustees as a trusted volunteer to manage member data and compile reports using a Microsoft Access database (training provided).

·       Greeting visitors and members, handling enquiries, and processing payments for memberships, Scrapstore loads, and shop purchases

·       Ensuring stock in the Scrapstore and craft shop is replenished so there's always a good variety available

·       Ideally, you’ll be available Monday to Wednesday and on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month to align with our opening hours – but we’re happy to chat and work around your availability. This role might suit someone retired or with flexible free time during the day.

About you:

·       Enthusiastic about creativity, community, and sustainability

·       A self-starter who is reliable and trustworthy

·       Good with people – friendly, helpful and organised

·       Experience managing or supervising staff or volunteers

·       Comfortable handling basic sales and cash/card payments

·       Comfortable learning basic tasks in a Microsoft Access database

Why volunteer with us?

·       Make a real difference to your local community and the environment

·       Build new skills – or put your existing experience to great use – in volunteer coordination, retail and social enterprise

·       Join a friendly, welcoming team and be part of something positive

How to apply:

Email a short CV and/or cover letter to admin@derbyplayandrecyclingcentre.org and let us know you’re interested in the Volunteer Team Lead role, and our Trustees will get back to you.
